Yogyakarta, August 22, 2025 — The Undergraduate and Master’s Accounting Study Programs, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta, held a workshop entitled “Redesigning the Semester Learning Plan (RPS) Based on Outcome Based Education (OBE)” on Friday, August 22, 2025, at the FEB Seminar Room. The event featured Prof. B.M. Purwanto, MBA, Ph.D as the keynote speaker and was moderated by Dr. Dwi Sudaryati, S.E., M.Acc., Ak., CA.

The workshop aimed to provide comprehensive insights and practical guidance for lecturers and study program managers in redesigning syllabi using the OBE approach. This approach emphasizes measurable learning outcomes that are relevant to international standards, ensuring that graduates are equipped with competencies to compete globally.

In his presentation, Prof. B.M. Purwanto highlighted the importance of formulating clear and measurable graduate competencies that go beyond relying solely on Grade Point Average (GPA). “GPA does not always reflect students’ competencies. A dual system is needed to ensure that graduates truly acquire the expected skills,” he emphasized.

He further explained the essential role of rubrics in OBE, from formulating learning outcomes (CPL), developing curriculum maps, to objectively assessing student performance. Rubrics, he stated, serve as a “recipe” to translate abstract competencies into concrete and measurable indicators.

Moreover, Prof. B.M. Purwanto stressed that a graduate profile should not be seen as a direct reflection of a job position, but rather as a set of core competencies that students must possess. He also pointed out the need to improve the practice of tracer studies so that the data collected better represents the actual condition of graduates.

The workshop became more engaging with interactive discussions and a Q&A session. Key issues raised included curriculum design for newly established study programs, assessment of learning outcomes by study programs or individual lecturers, and the integration of local wisdom into competency measurement.

Through this workshop, it is expected that lecturers and program managers, particularly in the Accounting Study Program of FEB UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta, will strengthen the implementation of OBE in curriculum design. Thus, the learning process will not only produce graduates with high GPAs but also graduates who are competent, critical, creative, and globally competitive.
